Randy Cherry

Minister of Music

Randy is a native of the Montgomery/Prattville area and grew up in a home filled with gospel music. His mom played the piano at church every Sunday. He started taking piano lessons at the age of 12 and started playing and singing in church at the age of 16 and felt a call upon his life to music ministry. In 1982, he graduated from Auburn University with a Bacherlor’s degree in Music Theory and Composition.
After serving as minister of music in churches in Mobile, Auburn and Montgomery, he formed a music group called New Praise that traveled for 6 years ministering in churches across the southeast and also developed a monthly city wide praise and worship service called “Celebration to the King.” He has a passion to lead people in praise and worship and through that experience, draw closer to the Lord. For 18 years, he served as Orchestra Director for Eastmont Baptist Church in Montgomery and then served in a similar position at East Memorial Baptist Church in Prattville for 4 years. He enjoys writing and arranging music for choirs, orchestras and small groups.
Randy has been married to his wife Amy, for 26 years and together they have four children, Christine, Rachel, Matthew and Hannah. He is excited about his new role at Shoal Creek and being a part of the Shoal Creek Family.
