Gene DeVaughn

Associate Pastor of Education and Youth

Gene DeVaughn was born and raised here in the Holtville community. He graduated from Holtville High School in 1990 and went to work for his father at DeVaughn’s Automotive. His life was radically changed when he came to know Jesus Christ at the age of 23. He began attending Shoal Creek Baptist Church where he began working in the youth ministry and as a result, God gave him a new passion in life. He went from a volunteer youth worker to becoming the main teacher. Gene answered God’s call to the Gospel Ministry and was licensed and ordained in November of 2000. He was hired by Shoal Creek as the part-time Student Minister and later became the church’s first full-time Student Minister.
After serving 7 years on staff at Shoal Creek, Gene accepted the position of Student Minister at East Memorial Baptist Church in Prattville, AL where he served for 4 years, then as College Pastor for 2 more years. Gene is the founder of Redline Ministries and is the author of all Bible study curriculums offered by Redline Student Events for DiscipleNow Weekends, Retreats, Camps and Small Groups. He has also written two devotional books for students entitled FUEL: What are you driven by? and Unstoppable, both of which are available at LifeWay Christian Stores.
Gene has now returned home to Shoal Creek to fulfill a new role. He is pursuing a degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and has been happily married to his wife Lesley for 23 years. They have 2 beautiful daughters, Reagan and Gracen.
