"And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book;
but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing
you may have life in His name. (John 20:30-31)
His brother James was dead - Peter was dead - Thomas, Andrew, Phillip, and Nathaniel
were dead - even Paul "the least of the apostles" was dead.
But there remained one - one who had walked with Jesus, talked with Jesus, and ate with
Jesus. One who saw the ministry and witnessed the miracles of Jesus. One whose eyes
were fixed on Jesus as He hung on the cross and one who stood amazed at the empty tomb.
One who saw the resurrected Christ in the upper room. One who had directly received the
command from Christ to "make disciples." One who had witnessed the coming of the spirit
at Pentecost and the birth of the church for which Christ died. One who had seen the initial
revival and experienced the resulting persecution of following Christ.
Only one remained with the authority to write one last account of the "good news" that
"Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name."
